The colonial district of Kampot
The construction of urban buildings in this part of Kampot is known as the ‘Chinese compartment’ and is characteristic of cities in South-East Asia. Composite in style (because they are Sino-colonial) and mixed in function (commercial and residential), these architectural elements appeared in Kampot at the beginning of the 20th century, during the French protectorate, when previously only wooden houses had been built in the town.
The house that houses La Plantation’s boutique has retained its authentic colonial character.
