How short supply chain is used by La Plantation?
In a world increasingly concerned with its environmental impact and the quality of its food, supporting local producers stands out as a sustainable solution. Through short supply chains, we ensure unparalleled freshness and perfect traceability, from the local producer to your table. Today, we want to share our privileged relationship with the short supply chain economic model.
Buy direct from the producer and promote short distribution channels
At La Plantation, we cultivate our own peppers and spices, and we also bring together a network of 70 small family farms that grow spices for us across various regions of Cambodia. Fresh plants, spices, or roots are delivered immediately after harvest to La Plantation, where we process them on the same day using an optimal procedure to preserve the aromas and freshness of each product.
Our Fair Trade certification (World Fair Trade Organization) guarantees adherence to fair trade principles, and we commit to purchasing the entire production from our farmers at a fair price. In return, they commit to respecting the 10 WFTO principles, which include: no child labor, equal treatment for men and women, respect for the environment, and the prohibition of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
At La Plantation, we package our spices immediately after production. If they are leaves or roots, they are stored whole or in petals and will only be ground into powder at the last moment before being packaged in small sealed bags, then in cardboard tubes, and shipped immediately by cargo container in sealed cartons. This method is more environmentally friendly than air shipping. These spices will be on your table in Europe three months later, a record time from our farm to your table.
La Plantation: Limited and fair spices production
We produce each spice in small quantities, according to their harvest seasons, and prefer to risk running out of stock rather than overproducing and failing to sell the year’s production within the following months. This is a guarantee of quality and freshness for the spices. You can see for yourself by opening a tube of our spices. Even before opening the bag, you will notice the intensity of the aromas of our products! This approach also ensures waste-free production, utilizing each harvested plant to its fullest.
Our ultimate quality assurance: Short supply chain on every package
At La Plantation, in our commitment to absolute transparency, we include the plot of origin and the harvest or production date on every package. This allows us to trace the complete journey of the spice from the farm to your table at any time, ensuring perfect traceability and unparalleled freshness.
How does La Plantation integrate short supply chains into the distribution of its products?
We prioritize fine grocery stores and specialty food shops that adhere to the values of La Plantation’s social and sustainable project. These partners are committed to supporting producers of quality products and have selected our brand. With products packaged by our employees in Kampot, Cambodia, this approach helps sustain our rural community and supports our network of family farms.
These local businesses allow us to offer La Plantation products closer to the consumer, ensuring that the journey from our farm to your table is as direct as possible.
La Plantation spices are also available for direct purchase from our online store. In Cambodia, you can find our shops in Phnom Penh, Kampot, and soon in Siem Reap. Feel free to visit our farm directly, located in the lush region of Kampot, about thirty minutes from the city, where we produce and package each spice packet!
The short supply chain is a suitable response to contemporary challenges of sustainability, food quality, and support for local economies. Adopting this distribution model means making a conscious choice for a greener and more supportive future, and supporting a more ethical spice industry.
