Why choose dried fruit as a snack?
Dried fruits are a concentrated source of vitamins, minerals and fibre. The dehydration process locks in their natural aromas and intensifies their flavour without altering their nutritional value.
They make a healthy, natural snack which is a straightforward alternative to processed sweets. Paired with cashew nuts, they form a satisfying and nutritious combination, ideal for sport, work or travel.
Why eat cashew nuts?
Cashew nuts are rich in plant-based protein, fibre, minerals and healthy unsaturated fats. They provide long-lasting energy and help with satiety, making them a sound alternative to industrial snacks.
A small daily handful supports heart health, strengthens natural defences and contributes to overall nutritional balance. Find out more about the benefits of cashew nuts.
Where do the fruits come from?
Cambodia is a recognised producer of tropical fruits, and agriculture is a cornerstone of its economy.
Pineapples from Kampong Speu We selected pineapples from Kampong Speu province, where the soil and climate are particularly well suited to this fruit. The variety grown there is small and compact, with bright yellow flesh that is naturally sweet, juicy and well-balanced in acidity.
Mangoes from Battambang We source the best mangoes from the Battambang region in north-west Cambodia. The variety is Keo Romeat which is widely considered one of the finest mangoes in the country. It has firm, sweet and fragrant flesh. Its skin stays green even when fully ripe, which can mislead those unfamiliar with the variety.
A responsible, short-supply-chain model
The dried fruit and cashew range is built on a fair trade, short-supply-chain model that values the work of producers and reduces food waste.
Fruits intended for export are typically picked underripe and left to ripen in cold storage. In our model, Cambodian family farms dry their fully ripe fruit on site and the fruit that is too ripe to export but at its absolute best for flavour. Letting fruit ripen naturally on the tree delivers the full taste and nutritional value that cold-chain logistics cannot match.
The same principle applies to our pineapples. By buying ripe fruit locally, producers are fairly compensated and customers get a dried fruit that genuinely tastes like the real thing.
How to store dried fruits and cashew nuts?
Keep dried fruits and cashew nuts in a cool, dry place away from direct light. An airtight jar or sealed container is ideal as it preserves their texture and prevents moisture from softening the fruit or turning the nuts stale. Stored correctly, they keep their flavour and nutrients for several months without any additives.
FAQ – Dried Fruits and Cashew Nuts
What are the benefits of dried fruit compared to fresh fruit?
Dried fruit concentrates the nutrients of fresh fruit through dehydration, the vitamins, minerals and fibre are preserved, while the caloric density increases. Unlike fresh fruit, dried fruit requires no refrigeration and keeps for several months, making it a practical and nutritious option for on-the-go snacking, sport or travel.
How can I incorporate dried fruit and nuts into my daily diet?
Both are versatile across all meals. Add them to muesli, porridge or yoghurt at breakfast; eat a small handful as a mid-morning or afternoon snack; scatter over salads, curries or tagines; or serve cashews alongside drinks at aperitivo time. A small daily portion is enough to benefit from their nutritional value.
How do I recognise quality dried fruit?
Quality dried fruit has a natural colour, a firm but pliable texture and a pronounced aroma. It should contain no artificial flavourings, no added sugar and no preservatives. Our dried fruits are prepared in Cambodia, picked at full ripeness and naturally dried without any additives.
How are La Plantation cashews different from supermarket cashews?
Our cashews come from a traceable, fair trade supply chain that ensures producers are fairly compensated and quality is preserved at every step. Supermarket cashews typically pass through multiple intermediaries, with little transparency on origin or processing. Our range also offers flavour combinations that are genuinely unique such as galangal and turmeric, smoked spice blend, salt and Kampot white pepper, developed using our own farm-grown spices.
Are these products suitable for vegans?
Yes. All dried fruits and cashew nuts in the range are 100% plant-based, with no animal-derived ingredients.
Can dried mango or pineapple be used in cooking?
Yes. Both work well beyond snacking. Add sliced dried mango to a curry, tagine or rice dish for a fruity contrast. Chopped dried pineapple pairs well with grilled meat or can be incorporated into baked goods. The Kampot red pepper seasoning on both adds a subtle heat that works naturally in savoury preparations.
Our dried fruits offer a unique blend of flavours that provides an exceptional taste experience, combining the natural sweetness of the fruit with the subtle heat of our world-renowned Kampot pepper.
For an exquisite treat full of character, our dried mangoes and pineapples can be enjoyed on their own, served as part of an aperitif platter, or even added to stews. A delicious, ready-to-eat snack that the whole family will love and one that’s good for the environment too!
