An exceptional
Turmeric powder
Turmeric, also known as Indian saffron, has a long millennia-old history of use in Southeast Asia, India, considered the original birthplace of turmeric, and also in Cambodia.
Throughout history, turmeric has been an important commodity in trade between Southeast Asia and Europe. It was introduced to Europe by Arab merchants in the Middle Ages, thus becoming one of the most prized spices.
Turmeric is a tropical herbaceous plant of the Zingiberaceae family, and its rhizome, or root, is the main element used both in cooking and for medicinal purposes.
This spice has played a central role in traditional Cambodian cuisine, bringing its characteristic golden color and warm flavor to local dishes. In traditional Cambodian medicine, Turmeric has also been used for its healing properties.
Our Turmeric comes from a special species that grows in Cambodia, with very small root size and low productivity per hectare.
This turmeric is cultivated authentically and environmentally responsibly, in the heart of our Kampot Farm. Our local farmers, guardians of ancestral knowledge, use traditional farming methods. The Turmeric roots are planted in rich and fertile soils, and harvested at maturity to ensure optimal flavor.
Bathed in the Cambodian sunlight, our plantations promote the production of the active compound, curcumin, which is responsible for the benefits of turmeric. Turmeric is grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, making it a healthy choice for your kitchen and environmentally friendly.
The harvesting of Turmeric roots, followed by production, is done by hand: sorting the roots, removing small roots, then cleaning with water, peeling, and blanching. The roots are then sliced and dried in a solar greenhouse for 4 days. Once dry, the Turmeric chips are ground into powder.
Our Turmeric is so exceptional due to its curcumin content (close to 10%), its aroma, and its taste that we have decided to call it “turmeric flower”.
Cambodian turmeric would offer a multitude of health benefits, including:
- Curcumin present in turmeric would help reduce inflammation and relieve joint pain.
- Turmeric would be rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals, thus helping to prevent premature aging.
- It would promote digestion by stimulating bile production and relieving gastrointestinal disorders.
- Turmeric would strengthen immunity, helping to prevent infections. It is an ideal ally throughout the year, especially during the long winter months.
These benefits make Turmeric a versatile root, not only to enhance the flavor of your dishes but also to contribute to your overall well-being. Our turmeric powder offers a unique experience, combining exceptional quality and health benefits in every gram.
Our Cambodian turmeric can be used in multiple ways to add a touch of exoticism to your dishes:
- Turmeric pairs perfectly with rice dishes, such as risotto and curries, like fish amok (of which it is the main ingredient). It will add a colorful and delicious touch to your winter soups and pairs very well with vegetables, especially orange vegetables such as carrots, pumpkins, squash, and other gourds. Add a pinch of turmeric powder to enhance the flavors of your recipes.
- Prepare a turmeric tea by mixing half a teaspoon of turmeric in hot water. For an even more exquisite taste, add honey or lemon. You can also add it to fruit and vegetable juices or smoothies.
- Use turmeric to add depth to your meat, fish, or vegetable dishes. It is also delicious in marinades.
- Turmeric is renowned for its skin properties. Create a beauty mask by mixing turmeric with yogurt or honey for radiant skin.
ALWAYS PAIR TURMERIC WITH BLACK PEPPER
It is strongly recommended to accompany turmeric with a small dose of freshly ground Kampot Black Pepper. Indeed, the active ingredient in pepper (piperine) promotes the absorption of the benefits of curcumin by the body.
Curcumin, the main active compound in Turmeric, is often praised for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties, and other health benefits. However, its limited bioavailability can hinder its effectiveness. This is where Kampot Black Pepper comes in with its piperine, which helps overcome this challenge by promoting better absorption of curcumin into the bloodstream.
This combination is often recommended in various culinary and medicinal traditions to maximize the healing properties of turmeric. Whether in cooked dishes, smoothies, or teas, make sure to include this dynamic duo to fully leverage their synergistic benefits. However, as always, it is wise to consult a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, especially if you have specific medical concerns.
Once the package is opened, we recommend storing our Turmeric Flower powder in a sealed jar, away from light and moisture, to preserve its full flavor.
Our 50g tubes are made of food-grade certified kraft paper. You can simply open the inner pouch and pour the turmeric into the tube.
For our 100g kraft bags, you can store it in a glass jar after opening for optimal preservation. Otherwise, use your bag as a refill for your 50g tube and securely close the remaining 100g bag with clips.
Be sure to remove the oxygen absorber. It helps to preserve the color and aroma of the turmeric powder during the transportation period, but once the package is opened, you no longer need it.
